Welcome to the Feany Lab!
In our laboratory we have created fruit fly models of human
neurological diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease,
and a number of less common disorders. By expressing normal and mutant
human alpha-synuclein in flies, we have recreated key features of the human
disorder. We are now using the genetic tools available in Drosophila to
identify proteins and cellular pathways controlling the pathogenesis of Parkinson
disease. We have taken a similar approach to studying Alzheimer's disease,
focusing on expression of human tau and Abeta in flies.
